This is for a discussion of things like Sites, Site Fees, 'Golden Rules', Customer Service, and things of that nature. It's all fun coming up with Themes, Setting Stuff, and Mechanics, but it's all for nothing if we don't have a place to run the game.
I'll look into continuing to look into golden age, but I imagine we'll run into a similar problem that we did with the current Larp. Also, many of the sites we looked into as a replacement for Golden age weren't promising or cost effective, so if we want something different, we'll have to work pretty hard to make it go.

Golden Age is available for Sundays if we want to make that shift. Community centers are also worth looking into.

Sundays I think are doable, provided we have an earlier game end time. Conversely, we could look at starting at noon or something.

I'm generally against a move to Sundays. The current group ever since the original L5R LARP has fostered a community that values the after party as much as the game itself. Saturday's are the perfect after party day because the general population of the game has a M-F schedule and people like to stay up late, hang out, have fun. We can't do that as easily if we switch to Sundays. I don't mind taking a poll about it though and asking the player base.

I think the idea of an earlier time is that it means we can also do diner earlier. Game 12:00 to 6:00 then diner 6:00 to 8:00 would work for most people. I like Saturdays but even if Wes and carla let us continue using their house it's not exactly an ideal location and would be very difficult if the game grows beyond its current population.

Agreed, I do think it might be a good idea to put a decent amount of effort into locating a new site. Also we should keep in mind that the first 3 sessions of every LARP always has more players than it will generally be ready to be able to handle. When EH first hit off we had almost 40 people showing up, now we are down to a dull 20, but as word gets out about the new L5R LARP, we will likely at least attract a few more people to try it out. I already know of two people who are waiting. Wesley and Carla's home will not fit 40+ people.....

Hi!
So, my roomates are willing to allow our home as a site for game.
It's a two-story house, and it's smaller than Wes' place. However, we have both a back and front yard available for gaming space, and a nearby public park within walking distance that we can use for mods. Veterans memorial park is also within a 5 minute walk, and their outdoor facilities could also be used for gaming.
PROS-
1. I will never be late. 2. We don't need to collect much in the way of site fees. 3. Walking distance to a public park with covered tables overlooking a pond.
Cons 1. We have 3 cats and 3 dogs, so - allergies, the inevitable dog-pop that's gonna be in the backyard, and other pet related woes (though they'll be stowed away for game). 2. Indoor space is a bit limited. 3. There's a Denny's down the street for afters! 4. If we're going to do this, we need to start preparing now - collecting props, gear, and expediting some projects that we've put aside so that the house will be more ready.

The cats thing is a bit of a problem for me, I fear. I've got a pretty hefty allergy to cats. I can cope for a bit with drugs and stuff, but I do have a significant preference towards a no-cat space.
(Would actually list the Denny's as a pro!)

Part of our discussions involved providing appropriate drugs and air-purifiers as well. Will that be helpful?

Depends on duration. Usually I can do 3-4 hours in a modestly cat-inhabited space with the aid of drugs, but after that, there's pretty rapidly increasing discomfort. Still, I have an extremely strong preference for a non-cat space. Other pets don't bother me, and other allergies are generally irrelevant to game spaces, and are less of an issue in any case.

I've been looking at community center rentals and the like and they're all prohibitively expensive (a few are $30/hr per room and most are significantly more than that). There is a dance hall in Fairfax that I'm looking at and trying to negotiate a better price for, but they're only available on Sundays. If we're going to do Sunday then I think it's best to contact Golden Age again and have an earlier start time.

It's probably going to be hard to beat Golden Age in Maryland. Space prices are pretty crazy out here. Unless we embrace doing it outside or something, there are various campsite options, but they are usually only practical in summer, and wet weather can be a downer.

City of Fairfax spaces seem be to running approx. $50/hr. Large classrooms at NOVA Annandale are $45-60/hr. Meeting room at the local park (Huntley Meadows) is $55/hr. Historic Huntley Manor (a historic property) is $85/hr. A shelter at the park would be $85/day.

I can offer my home for location. It is not much bigger than Wes's, but it has a nice central location in Capitol Heights, MD
